FAQs

  1.  Where does the stone come from?
Sometimes the most beautiful products are formed organically and crafted by some of the most skilled artisans. The stone for our retail products is quarried from around the world and crafted by experts in countries such as Italy and Portugal, as well as the UK. For our interior design service, we can source any kind of stone from anywhere in the world, where our expert UK-based stonemasons will cut, carve and install for all types of project.
  2. Are natural stone surfaces and products a ‘green’ alternative to other materials such as cement, plastic or wood?
The Natural Stone Institute states its perfectly when it says: “Natural stone is Mother Nature’s original green building material. It is neither bonded together by petroleum-based resins nor created in a factory. Natural stone flooring and counter tops will not need to be replaced for a long time, they are 100% recyclable, do not emit VOCs into your home and can be cleaned with Ph-neutral dish detergent. After all, what can be greener than a product that comes directly from the earth? When choosing to install a stone floor, counter top, wall cladding, etc. you are making a decision to use a product that will last for at least 100 years in many cases and certainly for the life of the building in most. No other building material is as recyclable as natural stone. Nearly 100% of stone from deconstructed projects is recyclable and able to be used on other projects, or crushed for use as roadbeds, etc.” For more information, visit https://www.naturalstoneinstitute.org/ or The Stone Federation of UK http://www.stonefed.org.uk/
  3. Are the products handmade?
Yes, all of our products are handmade by expert stonemasons and artisans.
  4.  What is semi-precious stone?
A semi-precious stone is any gemstone that is not a diamond, ruby, sapphire or emerald. They are in general not abundant and have been formed over thousands or millions or years with the local climatic conditions contributing to the colour shades produced within the stones. For example, stromatolite is the oldest fossil in the world, about 3.5 billion years old.
  5. Are your products unique?
Yes absolutely. Stone is a natural product and so no two pieces will ever be the same. Some stone has more marked variations that others; for example, the same type of marble will have different veining, colour and shading from one batch to the other.
  6. Are you able to custom-make products that are not on your website?
We can. Call or email us with details of your design project and we will provide you with a free quotation.
  7. How do I clean stone?
Never use an acidic product to clean stone. Wiping with a mild detergent that it is PH neutral or a specialist stone cleaning product and buffing with a soft cloth is always recommended.
